Overview

TEDxIbiza is a predominantly volunteer-run cultural event that brings together speakers, performers and audiences from across Ibiza’s international and local communities. Originally launched as TEDxDaltVila in 2023, the organisation earned the TEDxIbiza name after building a strong reputation for its production and programming.

For its March, 2026 event, TEDxIbiza wanted to make the audience experience more accessible for a multilingual in-person crowd. On an island where English, Spanish and Catalan are all part of everyday life, the team wanted a live translation solution that could support different language needs without adding friction for attendees or production staff.

With Interprefy, TEDxIbiza introduced live translation and captions that helped more attendees follow the content in the language that suited them.

The Multilingual Challenge

TEDxIbiza had an in-person audience of around 290 people, representing multiple nationalities and language backgrounds.

For the production team, language accessibility was not a box-ticking exercise. It was part of making the event feel relevant to the island itself. The team wanted to avoid the perception that TEDxIbiza was only for an international or expat audience, and instead make the experience more welcoming for Spanish-speaking and Catalan-speaking communities as well.

For us it’s really important to not exclude any local culture. - Bex Hronek, Show Producer, TEDxIbiza

In previous years, the event had used more traditional interpretation set-ups, including rented headsets and silent disco headphones. Those options created practical issues:

  • sound could carry between audience members
  • people not using translation could still hear nearby audio
  • the logistics added pressure to the live show environment

TEDxIbiza needed a more flexible approach to simultaneous interpretation and live captions that would work cleanly in a live venue.

Why TEDxIbiza Chose Interprefy

Interprefy came recommended by a team member who had experience of different translation tools used at seminars and events. As TEDxIbiza reviewed the options, Interprefy stood out for being easier to use, more accessible, and more straightforward to manage from an organiser’s point of view.

Interprefy came at the top of a recommendation list. - Bex Hronek, Show Producer, TEDxIbiza

The buying experience also mattered. The TEDxIbiza team found Interprefy responsive, easy to communicate with and supportive throughout the planning stage. That helped build confidence early, especially for a volunteer-led team managing a complex live event.

The decision was made not only based on the product itself, but also on the quality of implementation, support and responsiveness before the event.

The Approach

Interprefy supported TEDxIbiza before and during the event with:

  • user manuals and practical how-to guidance

  • extra help during technical runs

  • responsive communication on WhatsApp

  • on-site support for added reassurance on the day

For attendees, the interpretation experience was delivered on personal devices rather than through shared headset infrastructure. That changed the experience in two important ways.

First, it gave attendees more control. People could choose whether to use live captions or translated audio without affecting others around them.

Second, it reduced disruption in the room. Because audio only played when an attendee actively selected the loudspeaker option, nearby guests were not disturbed.

Interprefy also helped TEDxIbiza extend support beyond English and Spanish by providing Catalan, which was especially important for reaching more of the local community.

The Outcome

Interprefy helped TEDxIbiza make its in-person event more accessible for a multilingual audience while keeping the live production experience manageable.

What changed

  • TEDxIbiza could support attendees in English, Spanish and Catalan
  • audience members could access interpretation more discreetly on their own devices
  • the production team had a more practical alternative to rented headsets and silent disco equipment
  • organisers felt supported before the event, during rehearsals, on-site on the day, and after the event

What stood out to the team

The TEDxIbiza team described Interprefy’s support as thorough, user-friendly and consistently responsive. Questions were answered quickly, and the organisers felt comfortable raising issues at any stage.

The feedback was also specific and credible.

Every time I asked a question via WhatsApp, there was an instant response. - Bex Hronek, Show Producer, TEDxIbiza

Wider impact

The value of the service extended beyond the event itself. TEDxIbiza said it would use Interprefy again and recommend it to other organisers. The local council also asked for Interprefy’s details after seeing the relevance of multilingual event support in the Ibiza context.

Interprefy is definitely a service that we would come back to and use again and recommend. - Bex Hronek, Show Producer, TEDxIbiza
